Saw a big billboard near the car-way below my office and followed the website link given in the ad to learn about an interesting event happening in Noida from April 6th - 8th, 2012.

The event, titled India Gaming Carnival, targets to create a new Guinness world record and offers a prize money of Rs 1.5 Crores in total. It expects 3 Lakh visitors in a span of 3 days.

4shared increases upload limit to 2 GB

Popular file sharing website -  4shared has increased it's per file upload limit to 2048 MB (that is 2 GB). It is a great news for users who want a safe (don't read it as secure) place to store their large files and share with friends and family. There are many other sites offering same but have many limitations like number of downloads, number of days of availability etc..

Moreover, 4shared provides desktop utility to upload your files directly from your system with resume facility.

I was looking for a quick headstart for Python and found this video on youtube (and realized that video tutorials really help in keeping you glued esp. when you are already feeling sleepy). But after watching it, I'm wondering will I still remember Java after seeing the loosely typed syntax of Python :D

DOMTab with seamless navigation and automatic rotation of sections

I know my regular readers have been waiting for my new posts. I thank them for their patience and want to share that I'll now be posting regularly about my findings at my work and experiences otherwise.

This post shares how I developed an advanced version of the popular open source DOMTab (JavaScript to create tabbed structure in your application). DOMTab is a wonderful piece of code to painlessly create Firefox like tabs for your web application. Our application required the tabs to be seamless such that when we click "next" on last tab, it takes us to the first tab. Moreover, the tabs should automatically change to next one after 5 secs.

The changes and additions I made to original DOMTab.js were not many or difficult to do (credited to original author for the clean code) but I felt it would be worth sharing with you all so that others who need this functionality don't need to re-invent the wheel.

Weirdo | Advani featured on Pak Tribune's website

Strange things happen sometimes, esp. with Google ads when the adsense engine picks up and shows advt on a website which was not at all meant to be there. I have seen many such incidences but this one is one of the coolest ones...

It shows and advertisement of L.K. Advani (a leader of an Indian party) on the home page of Pakistan's leading newspapers website - Pak Tribune. What's more interesting is the fact that the article on the homepage talks about the evils of the same party (BJP) to which Advani belongs. So, Google Adsense Ad picking engine just picked up the words India, BJP etc.. and popped up the ad right on the header of the website.. Funny isn' it? :D

Ever got a missed call which got you wondering who was that? Most probably yes. But you had no means to figure out the caller and the only option you had was to forget about it.

Now you can at least get to know the location and operator of the mobile from which you got the call which is a quite big hint in itself!

Google Chrome | Too secure to use? Haha

No I'm not a Google critic but I came across this awkard behaviour by Google's new born baby - Google Chrome Browser and thought of sharing it with you all. :)

It warned me for infection while opening gmail (the screenshot below says it all..)

I stumbled upon the fact that Google Talk allows language conversions which are as simple as chatting! So, instead of using Google Translate, just copy paste the text in your translator friend’s window and he will reply you with the translation!

Let’s say you want to translate from German to English.

1. Add de2en@bot.talk.google.com to your friend’s list.
2. Ping him with the text to be translated
3. You will get the translated reply within seconds!

How can I learn?

It’s easy! Just flip the side. Say you want to learn German..

1. Add en2de@bot.talk.google.com to your friend’s list.
2. Ping him with any English word.
3. You will get the German translation and you can learn as many words this way J
