Convergence arriving soon: Two-in-one mobile phones!

Bharti Airtel will introduce Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) service by the end of the year.

The launch will lower phone bills and enable customers to use a single phone with a common number for mobile and fixed-line calls.

A customer needs a dual-mode phone, worth Rs 10,000, that is compatible with GSM networks and also Wi-Fi enabled plus broadband connectivity through a fixed line at the office or home.

When the user is on the move, the phone connects through the GSM network. Once at home or at the office, the phone works through the fixed-line backbone.

This translates into significant savings since fixed-line local call rates are half the cost of a mobile call. Also, industry experts say that nearly 40 per cent of the calls made on a mobile phone are undertaken within the office.

Seems interesting... so lets wait n watch wen we wil b holding it in our hands... :)

do u really think that will reduce cost!

certain plans in market lets u call free of cost (approx).... whats the need of getting hooked to landline...i think that 40 % figure is faked by company ....
it will only reduce about 5-10%
no body will pay 10,000 to save 50 to 100 a month ...

i will suggest u to not buy such thing....

moreover if the number changes more often receiver can get confused ...

if i hav to design a system i will design a dual or trio sim card mobile phone ... that will choose the same connection for outgoing call
that actually happens in EPBAX...

thanks for posting comment tejeshwer.. well indeed it wil reduce costs.. first i wil suggest u to read d post again... its not 40% reduction rather its 50%... reason is simple.. coz "40% calls of calls made to/from mobiles r undertaken within office.. (this is d line i wanted u to read again..)

another thing.. u sed .. "no body will pay 10,000 to save 50 to 100 a month".. wel u need to do some research b4 sayin this... wen u talk in terms of an enterprise.. this 50-100rs becomes thousands of rupees.. i agree it mite not be feasible for home users... but in office it can really help to save d pocket..

also... convergence is the buzzword today... n this is jsut a step towards it.. many milestones hv to b covered b4 it comes as an avatar for d common man.. so wait n watch..

also u sed.. "if i hav to design a system i will design a dual or trio sim card mobile phone".. well thats not a bad idea... go ahead.. i wud b glad to showcase this in my blog ;)

but if u still feel dat ppl @ bharti r really dumb.. do let them kno...

thanks.. :)
